The 10 website fixes that can help you rank higher on Google
Ten specific changes you can make yourself, in rough order of impact, with no technical knowledge needed.
The short answer
The ten highest-impact fixes are: write service-and-city page titles, write real meta descriptions, use one clear H1 per page, build a page per service, add genuine text to thin pages, answer client questions on the page, name your images, link your own pages together, claim and fill your Google Business Profile, and keep details consistent everywhere.
None of these require a developer. Do one a week and you will have worked through the whole list in under three months.
The ten, in order of impact
- 1. Rewrite every page title so it names the service and the city, under about 60 characters.
- 2. Write a real description for each page — one sentence you would say out loud, under 160 characters.
- 3. Give each page one main heading that describes that page only.
- 4. Create a separate page for each service you want to be found for.
- 5. Add 300 or more genuine words to any page that is mostly images.
- 6. Answer your five most-asked client questions in plain text on the relevant page.
- 7. Rename image files and write alt text that describes the picture.
- 8. Link your pages to each other — a service page should link to your FAQ, your pricing context and your contact page.
- 9. Claim your Google Business Profile, fill every field and start collecting reviews.
- 10. Make your business name, address and phone number identical everywhere they appear online.
Why titles come first
Your title is the line Google shows in results and one of the strongest signals about what a page is for. Changing 'Services' to 'Brand photography in Boise, Idaho' takes two minutes and changes what you can be found for.
How to know a fix worked
Don't judge it the next day. Compare month to month: are more people finding you through search, are you getting reviews, are enquiries mentioning things you wrote? Bloom re-checks your site every month so you can see those changes without digging through tools.
